COMMAND/Post provides centralized command and control for availability, fault management, and automated operations of multi-vendor environments. The product employs a combination of message- and agent-based technology and interoperability with leading management frameworks. COMMAND/Post can alert operations staff to problems and respond automatically to systems and network events before users even become aware of them.

COMMAND/Post consolidates event and fault data from Compaq Insight Management Agents, correlates the data with other event information, and automatically initiates notification and resolution actions. The integration is available initially in the Microsoft Windows NT environment through COMMAND/Post.

When managing Compaq servers with COMMAND/Post, you gain improved application surveillance, alarm detection, and automated resolution. Intelligent EnsignTM agents within COMMAND/Post, collect event data produced by Compaq Insight Management Agents. This data is transported to the COMMAND/Post console where it is filtered, correlated, and presented to operators. Based on the detection of specific events, automated actions can be taken to resolve problems occurring at the agent level.

Compaq has led the industry in making servers and desktops easy to manage. Compaq Insight Manager is an intelligent management tool that constantly monitors and analyzes critical information provided by Compaq Insight Management Agents. The agents provide detailed performance, configuration, and fault management for a large number of Compaq systems on your network. In fact, they monitor more than 1,000 server and desktop parameters. Because they are SNMP-based, the agents integrate readily into leading systems management applications.

A fault message from a Compaq server is received on a COMMAND/POSTscreen, indicating a disk drive is about to fail. This enables a console operator to proactively replace the drive, avoiding unnecessary downtime.
